17903 Antihopping slipper clutch for KTM RC8, Duke 1290, Adventure 1190 – mounting instructions

Congratulations, you bought one of best clutch systems for your KTM .

This clutch should be installed by an experienced KTM workshop, or mechanic.

1. Read this instruction with photos before you start. Check if the set includes all parts according to list.
2. Remove standard clutch drum according to KTM workshop manual, clean the threads on the shaft and big nut of old glue with brake cleaner.
3. Check the standard shim is still between basket and drum ( pic.a ).
4. Install pre mounted slipper drum. ( pic. b )
5. Put steel ( kit ) washer and main nut ( original ). Tighten the nut with torque 130 Nm and secure it with glue Loctite No.620 (RED) ( pic. c ).
6. This clutch is designed for original factory clutch plates. Use our supplied clutch springs or use GSXR1000 K5 – K8 springs. The standard clutch plates pack includes thinner friction plate with steel rings on first position. NEVER install this first. Install a normal friction plate first ( pic.d ), then a steel plate ( pic.e ), and then the friction plate with bigger diameter ( pic.f ) and both steel rings ( pic.g ). The remaining plates are installed as normal. ( pic. h ).
7. Special instructions for the model year 2013 and newer ( valid also for Duke 1290 and Adventure 1190 ). The best solution is to use the complete clutch plates set from the model 2012. If you plan to use the OEM clutch set model year. 2013 + , you have to make the pack thicker, to do this, remove 2 pcs. Of the 1.55mm thickness steel disc, and to replace them with 2 pcs. of 2.0mm thick steel discs. Replace the first steel disc by pressure plate with a 2.0mm steel disc. Catalog numbers for steel discs are bellow in item # 11
8. Install the standard push rod.
9. Install pressure plate ( pic. i )
10. Install clutch springs (kit, or GSXR 1000 K5 – K8 ), install spring retainers ( kit ), and tighten all with M5 bolts ( kit ) – torque 8 Nm ( pic. j ).

Check for the correct clearance between pressure plate and clutch hub via the small holes in the pressure plate. Correct clearance is about. 1.2mm. When the clutch plates wear and the clearance is less than 0.5mm change all friction plates.

11. In case, you use other clutch plates than the standard ones, you can obtain the correct clearance pressure plate / drum with help of combination different steel plates.

12. Install the case cover according to KTM workshop manual.
